The church was founded in 1777 by the beneficiary Constantin Rascanu. The edifice is suggestively decorated by classicist elements. It used to serve also as a cemetery church along the centuries. Representatives of the most distinguished Chisinau families, such as: Rascanu, Donici, Catarji, Russo etc. were buried within the church cemetery.
