The foundation of the Capriana Monastery dates back to 1429. The monastery ensemble includes three churches: "Assumption of the Virgin Church" Summer Church, reconstructed by Petru Rares in 1545 and remodified in 1821 by the Bishop Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni; "St. Gheorghe" Winter Church, constructed by the Superior Abbat Theofilact and new winter church "St. Nicholas", erected in 1903. It used to be the spiritual hearth of medieval Romanian culture.
