The monastery was founded in 1730 by the boyar Constantin Carpuz. The celebrity of the monastery is owed to the Miracle Worker Icon of the Blessed Virgin of Harbovat, the icon donated by the wife of the Russian colonel, Nicolai Albaduiev, who died in Harbovat in 1790.
