Two equestrian statues, which represent national value, were erected on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Both of them were unveiled in the second half of the XXth century. The matter in question is Grigore Kotovski monument, erected in 1959 in Chisinau and monument, consecrated to Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov in 1979 in Tiraspol. The group of authors of the Kotovski monument (L. Dubinovski, K. Kitaika, I. Persudcev and A. Poseado) took their inspiration from the renowned Renaissance equestrian statue of condottiere Colleoni, executed by the famous sculptor of Venice, Verrochio. The monument of Russian generalissimo Suvorov (1979) was executed by sculptors V. and Vl. Artamonov and architects Ia. Drujinin and Yu. Chisteakov in a more dynamic manner, specific to Soviet sculpture at the end of the 70's - beginning of the 80's of the XXth century. Both monuments glorify the victories of commanders of armies, which became symbolic in the framework of art ideology, typical of Soviet period in the history of the Republic of Moldova.
